Data Sovereignty

Your nation's data belongs to your nation.

This page says plainly what that means in practice, so a council member or a finance director can read it once and know where we stand.

  1. The nation owns its data

    Your nation owns the data it shares with us. Sharing data with BurningSageTech does not transfer ownership, and it does not give us a license to use that data for anything beyond the work your nation hired us to do.

  2. Where it is stored

    We keep working data in access-controlled storage under our administrative control, and only for as long as the engagement requires it. We do not copy it to personal devices or unmanaged accounts.

    If your nation requires data to stay in a specific location, or inside systems your nation controls, tell us before work begins. We will either work within that requirement or say plainly that we cannot, before you have committed to anything.

  3. Who can access it

    Access is limited to the people doing your nation's work, and to nothing wider than that work requires. We do not sell data. We do not share it with any third party except where your nation directs it in writing, or where a law compels it, and in that case we will tell your nation unless the law forbids us from telling you.

  4. Never used to serve anyone else

    We do not use one nation's data to build, train, or improve anything for another client. Not in aggregate, not stripped of identifiers, and not as an example in a proposal.

    If we ever want to use something from your engagement elsewhere, we will ask in writing first and describe exactly what we want to use. A no ends the matter, and it costs your nation nothing.

  5. What happens when the engagement ends

    Your nation chooses. We return the data, or we delete it, or we return it and then delete our copies. We confirm in writing when it is done, and we tell you what was covered.

  6. Your policy governs

    Many nations have their own data governance policy, research code, or records rules. Send yours. We will read it, follow it, and write the commitment into the engagement agreement.

    If anything in your nation's policy conflicts with how we normally work, your policy wins. If we cannot meet a requirement, we will say so before work begins rather than after.
